ABOUT US

The Albemarle Symphony Orchestra (ASO), formerly Crozet Community Orchestra, was launched in October 2013 by co-founders Denise Murray and Philip Clark, to serve the greater Crozet community through performance, education, and community outreach to enhance the community’s appreciation of orchestral music. We performed our first public concert at Tabor Presbyterian Church on Dec 10, 2013 with just 16 string musicians.

The ASO is now a 501(c)(3) non-profit cultural and educational organization, a diverse group of approximately 70 volunteer musicians of all ages and experience levels – amateurs, students, retirees, advanced beginners to professionals - on strings, winds, brass and percussion instruments. We aim to provide an open-door opportunity for local musicians in a supportive, non-competitive atmosphere.

The ASO is open to all musicians aged 14 and up. Generally, no auditions are required although younger musicians will be considered at the discretion of the music director. A minimum of two years playing experience and good sight-reading skills are strongly recommended. The cost is $65 for an 8-10 week session, due at the first rehearsal. (A limited number of need-based financial scholarships are available. Please contact us to inquire).

Please click to REGISTER for the upcoming session (Sept 7 – Nov 19, 2022), or to ask specific QUESTIONS. The ASO also accepts tax deductible donations by mail.
